Murray & Roberts Cementation invite suitably qualified candidates to apply for the position of Safety Officer. The successful candidate will report to the Safety Manager.The company will provide remuneration and benefits relevant and appropriate to the position. Preference will be given to Historically Disadvantaged South African (HDSA) candidates. Applications only open to South African Citizens / Permanent Residents.

Minimum Requirements…

Suitable candidates must possess the following minimum qualifications and skills:

  • Grade 12 or equivalent
  • National Diploma in Safety / Risk Management or equivalent at NQF Level 6 [advantageous]
  • Blasting Certificate
  • COMSOC 1 & 2
  • Valid First Aid Certificate
  • Investigation / Tap Root training (preferred)
  • Proficient in MS Office [Word, Excel]
  • Audit certification for ISO 9001, 14001 and OHSAS 18001
  • Valid EB driver’s licence

Suitable candidates must have the following work experience:

Apply for RDP House
  • 3+ years’ experience in a relevant mining production field as a Safety Officer
  • 3+ years’ experience in the mining sector (Trackless Board and Pillar Mining)

Job Specification…

The successful candidate will be responsible for, but not be limited to:

  • Carry out Incident investigations and Inquiries
  • Accurate and timeous submission of accident/ Incident reports
  • Maintaining an Accident control register and Safety statistics database
  • Timeous submission on Rand Mutual documentation
  • Conducting SHEQ audits and inspections and compiling SHEQ audit and inspection reports
  • Legal compliance audits and reports
  • Facilitating the risk assessment process
  • Identifying risk factors / leading indicators for the organisation
  • Critical area analysis and reporting
  • Facilitating and monitoring the effectiveness of Safety and Risk initiatives
  • Facilitating the maintenance of standards and procedures on the electronic library
  • Facilitating implementation of and maintaining risk management systems
